A solstice celebration

Another solstice has come and gone and with it the annual celebration at Manorun Farm, one of my favorite places. The weekend included great food, great music, great weather and a great community of friends.

At last, it's here....and so will they

Just got my hands on the new Sigur Ros album (I'm listening to it as I write).  It's too early for any sort of review but I love this band nonetheless. Breathtaking is really the only word needed as a description. I am so, insanely, happy that in 2 months from now I will be seeing them live for the first time. My favorite band since 2001. They also hold the title for my favorite song...ever. Seriously, I get choked up every single time I hear it. Have a listen.

Planet Earth and Sigur Ros...

My favorite song (band) and DVD series. This is a beautiful piece. I love this planet. Makes me wonder how there can be so many people out there who can live their lives in such a damaging way to this place we call home. How can such beauty coexist with plastic waterbottles, hummers and the tar sands, etc. etc. etc. Angers and frustrates me to my very core.

patrick watson, the great escape

So I just can't figure out how to get the whole video to fit. Regardless, fantastic song. Patrick Watson is definitely one of my top artists at the moment (and Canadian, originating in Montreal Quebec). To find out more click here. Worth a listen.

Bad day, looking for a way,
home, looking for the great escape.
Gets in his car and drives away,
far from all the things that we are.
Puts on a smile and breathes it in
and breathes it out, he says,
bye bye bye to all of the noise.
Oh, he says, bye bye bye to all of the noise.
Hey child, things are looking down.
That’s okay, you don’t need to win anyways.
Don’t be afraid, just eat up all the gray
and it will fade all away.
Don’t let yourself fall down.
Bad day, looking for the great escape.
He says, bad day, looking for the great escape.
On a bad day, looking for the great escape,
the great escape.

music I'm diggin', music I love

love. love. love.

melodious, peaceful, eerie, beautiful. need i say more?

7 years running and these guys are still my favorite band, though I've yet to see them live. Sadly the last time they came to town there was an unfortunate coincidence with a funeral. Please come back soon. Though perhaps I'll just have to plan a trip to Iceland and see them on the home turf. I'm dying to go. Side note, also check out Heima (www.heima.co.uk). DVD of their wonderful tour of Iceland.
